Design and manufacture around the part you need

Layer Works is organised around how engineering teams buy work — prototypes, machine components and low-volume production — with CAD support included where it helps. More than 20 years of combined engineering and manufacturing experience across the team.

Prototype development

For teams developing or testing a new part — from early geometry checks through functional prototypes and short design iterations.

  • CAD from sketches, dimensions or briefs
  • Design refinement
  • Functional prototypes
  • Fit and assembly checks
  • Multiple design iterations
  • Material recommendations
  • Short turnaround

Fixtures and machine components

For engineering and manufacturing teams that need specialised internal components around automation, machinery and production equipment.

  • Jigs and fixtures
  • Assembly nests
  • Sensor and camera mounts
  • Cable-management components
  • Pneumatic-routing components
  • Drill guides and alignment tools
  • HMI mounts and actuator supports
  • Gripper components and change parts

Low-volume and bridge production

For approved components needed in repeat quantities without the cost or lead time of conventional tooling.

  • Small and medium batches
  • Parallel-machine production
  • Repeatable approved revisions
  • Replacement components
  • Temporary production components
  • Bridge production before moulding or machining
  • Scheduled and repeat ordering

CAD and engineering support

CAD support sits alongside manufacture — not as a separate creative service. We help get the part right for FDM and for the application.

Your recurring parts, ready to reorder

Once a component is approved, we can retain its agreed manufacturing specification so repeat batches can be produced without restarting the design process.

  • Approved CAD revision
  • Material and colour
  • Orientation and production notes
  • Inspection requirements where agreed
  • Order history and packaging preferences

This is a practical retained specification — not a self-serve digital inventory platform.

What to send

  • CAD (STEP/STP/STL/3MF) — or a sketch, photos, measurements or problem description
  • What the part needs to do and where it will be used
  • Quantity and target date
  • Critical dimensions, fit or tolerance needs if known
  • Material preference if known — otherwise we will recommend

File formats

We accept STEP, STP, STL, 3MF, OBJ, PDF, Images, Drawings. Incomplete information is fine — we will ask for what matters.
