Proportionate quality controls for engineering work

We use proportionate, documented controls for suitable engineering work and will be clear where a project requires certification or validation beyond our current scope.

What we control in practice

Design and revision control

Agreed CAD revisions are identified before manufacture. Changes are confirmed rather than assumed.

Agreed part specification

Material, colour, quantity, critical features and any inspection needs are confirmed at quote stage.

Material recording

The material grade used for a job is recorded against the agreed specification.

Machine and build-profile notes

Where appropriate for repeat work, machine and build settings can be retained with the approved revision.

Orientation control

Print orientation is chosen with the load path and critical surfaces in mind, and retained for reorder where agreed.

Critical-dimension inspection

Dimensional checks can be performed on agreed datums and tolerances. Typical process capability is not the same as a guaranteed inspected dimension.

Finished-part photographs

Photographs of finished parts can be supplied where agreed, particularly for remote approval or records.

Repeat-order specification retention

Approved manufacturing notes can be retained so recurring batches restart from the known revision, not from scratch.

Non-conforming-part review

If a part does not meet the agreed specification, we review the cause and agree the corrective path with you.

Tolerance and inspection

Typical FDM tolerance on suitable geometries can be in the region of ±0.2 mm, but actual results depend on geometry, material, size, orientation and feature type. Critical dimensions should be agreed and inspected where they matter — we do not treat a headline tolerance as a universal guarantee.

Work we may decline or refer

Good engineering judgement includes saying no. The following applications typically require certification, validation or processes beyond our current scope:

  • Safety-critical machinery components
  • Pressure-containing parts
  • Lifting components
  • Medical applications requiring regulatory validation
  • Structural vehicle components
  • Certified electrical protection enclosures
  • Regulated food-contact applications without suitable validation

If your project sits near these boundaries, tell us early. We will be direct about suitability and, where possible, suggest a more appropriate manufacturing route.
